Smart money for smart homes – from £15

DONATE SMART

Zetetick Housing provides safe and happy supported living homes to mainly learning disabled and autistic adults, and those with complex needs. We are looking to raise £6,000 of your smart money to give all of our tenants’ access to a virtual assistant in a smart home.

Smart homes

At Zetetick we want all of our properties to be smart homes to make life easier for our tenants, so we are raising funds to enable us to buy a virtual assistant for every one of our houses. Whether an Alexa, Echo, Google or other AI service, these devices will help our tenants with the practicalities of everyday life. From calendars, reminders, wake-up calls, alarms, shopping lists and to-do lists, they are so helpful in getting life organised. For people with physical disabilities, they can also make the home more accessible, for instance by turning on lights or the cooker with a simple voice command.https://www.abilitynet.org.uk/news-blogs/how-do-alexa-and-amazon-echo-help-disabled-people

“Alexa, tell me a joke”

It’s not just practical jobs that virtual assistants can help with – they can also help with learning and entertainment. You can play an audiobook, ask for a spelling, a weather report, a favourite recipe, or any kind of information. They also make entertainment more easily accessible as they can play music, games, control the TV and even tell jokes.

Covid-19

During the Coronavirus pandemic, most of us have been stuck at home more than usual, and many people have suffered with feelings of isolation. Even before Covid-19 people with learning disabilities were much more likely to experience feelings of loneliness, and sadly that has only increased. In the ‘new normal’, technology is proving to be an invaluable resource for social inclusion as we use our devices more than ever to keep in touch with friends, family and the outside world.

Smart money

We are asking for donations of £15 upwards of your smart money to help us provide these virtual assistants for our tenants and make a real difference to their quality of life. Of course the larger the donation the more devices we can buy so if you can spare a little more, or if you are a business looking for beneficiaries for your corporate social responsibility programme, please get in touch or donate via the button below
