Meet the Trustees: Tash Pakeeree
Trustee volunteers are crucial
The role of a trustee volunteer is vital: helping organisations make crucial decisions about what direction a company should take. Sitting on the board, trustees are some of the most important volunteers in any charity, each giving up their time to help people with learning disabilities and autism live independently.
At Zetetick (ZHC), we’re lucky enough to have some wonderful people on the Board, and it’s great getting to know more about them and how they came to be a trustee. Here, we talk to Zetetick trustee Tash Pakeeree.
Tell us a bit about yourself outside of being a trustee
Hi, I’m Tash and I’m Scottish/Mauritian. I was born in Edinburgh and grew up in Scotland before moving to England. I also lived in Belfast, Northern Ireland for a few years so I now have one of those ‘hard to place’ accents.
I started working in Human Resources (HR) as a trainee within social housing back in 2012. I’ve worked in various fields of HR and I’m currently a Senior People Business Partner supporting Housing and Specialist Housing services.
Outside of work I love planning trips, traveling to new places and going to gigs/festivals. The gigs and trips have had to take a bit of a back seat more recently as I have just had my first child – a little boy named Kylian, so I’m currently enjoying some quality cuddle (and crying) time on maternity leave.
How did you find out about Zetetick before becoming a trustee?
I found out about Zetetick through a friend at work who knew I was looking for a voluntary role and at the time Zetetick were looking for trustees with HR related knowledge & experience.
What is it about Zetetick that made you want to be a trustee?
As soon as I started reading into the work Zetetick does and the support it provides I knew very quickly it was something I wanted to be part of if possible. I felt a personal affinity with its values and upon talking with Jonathan about the individual support Zetetick provides and learning about the residents, this just further reinforced that this was something I would love to be able to contribute to.
What do you bring to the role of trustee?
Whilst I’ve never served as a trustee before, having started my career as a trainee, I’m a big believer in learning from the ground up and very grateful to be part of the Zetetick team. I bring with me my experience of working with specialist housing and supported living services and passion for developing and supporting people.
What do you see as the most important issues surrounding the support and care of marginalised individuals and housing at the moment?
With my HR hat on I would say the rising need for specialist care & support and the recruitment, retention and remuneration for care & support roles. This alongside the cost of living presents a massive risk to ensuring individuals receive the appropriate tailored specialist support and living environment they need.
What do you think the future holds for ZHC?
As acknowledged above there are ever increasing challenges to providing safe, quality housing and support but Zetetick has a committed and passionate leadership so hoping to see more residents benefiting from the services ZHC provides.
Tell us an unusual fact about yourself
I’m related, through marriage, to Errol Brown – google You sexy thing, Hot Chocolate if you don’t know who he is!
Favourite tea and biscuit combination?
I really don’t like tea, (sorry), so it would need to be a coffee with a ginger stem biscuit.
