Volunteering in my area – Zetetick offers more than just thank you!
This week we celebrate the work done by volunteers! Zetetick Housing wants to say “thank you” and celebrate the fantastic contribution made to our communities by those giving up their time to help. Volunteers make a significant contribution to communities, whether they are supporting larger, well-known charities or smaller, local organisations.
Over the last 18 months, the response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccination programme is just one example where volunteers have played a pivotal role. During this extraordinarily difficult time, people from all walks of life around the UK have taken the time to volunteer and make a huge difference to their communities. This is a time for us to come together and thank all volunteers for their invaluable contribution.

Volunteering with Zetetick
The wonderful thing about being a volunteer is that everyone can do it, and the joy is found in the giving, especially to those who are frequently overlooked by society.
Zetetick Housing provides specialist accommodation for vulnerable adults with learning difficulties, disabilities, autism and mental health problems. Our supported living properties help our tenants to lead happy, independent lives in homes of their own, while being able to access the support they need. By using your skills and creative ideas you will be changing attitudes and helping enhance the lives of our tenants.
Here at Zetetick, we have found our volunteer’s contributions to be a lifeline in aiding the connection within our community; their commitment, energy, and innovation has been inspiring. Please see below, a shared experience from Emma Vartdal, who volunteered in the Engagement & Development team for Zetetick for 6 months and is now an employee of this charity:
“Volunteering with Zetetick has been an amazing experience for me. After unfortunately losing my job in marketing last Summer due to Covid-19, I really wanted to quickly get stuck into another project to gain some more experience whilst giving back to a worthy cause.
Browsing through doit.life for volunteering in my area I found Zetetick Housing Charity and immediately connected with the cause, as I understand the importance of supported living and how it transforms the lives of those who benefit from it.
Since starting as a volunteer, I was made to feel very welcome and as part of the team immediately. I also felt that my contribution was valued by the charity. I have been involved in areas such as social media strategy and engagement, planning/creating/scheduling social media content, as well as regularly writing articles on a range of subjects for this website!
I also led on the distribution and marketing of ZHC collection boxes within the local area (even being entered into the Sussex Day Volunteering Story Competition for my efforts!)
Throughout my time at Zetetick, I have been given the opportunity to develop my professional skills in a wide variety of areas whilst also knowing that my work is contributing in some way to improving the lives of our tenants. I have also really enjoyed meeting some lovely people, both employees and fellow volunteers.
Social Media Volunteering
To top it all off, I have just been offered a permanent position as Engagement and Development Officer for the charity! I am so grateful to Zetetick for the experience I have gained from my time as a volunteer and look forward to developing within the charity.
If you are considering volunteering, I would say don’t hesitate!”
